Advaitavidya organizes several annual retreats with Swami Satyananda Saraswati. These retreats offer the assistant a chance to have a few days of intense spiritual practice, as well as Swamiji’s guidance and teachings. An ashram life is followed, enjoying a natural, peaceful and silent environment.
During the retreats, Swamiji often explains a sacred text or a specific aspect of the Hindu tradition or Sanatana Dharma in depth. Swamiji´s teachings (satsang) are always based on traditional texts, guidance he received from different teachers and his own life experience. Some of the topics that have been addressed are; the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga Sutras, Advaita Vedanta texts, Kashmir Shaivism, philosophy of Yoga classical texts, Tantra, and life and teaching of various Mahatmas.
Retreats are experiential and include: the practice of meditation, devotional singing (kirtan), recitation of sacred texts, hatha yoga, moments of silence, time for study and contemplation, and selfless service (seva). The schedule of activities followed during the retreat creates a rhythm that leads to introspection. Normally we wake up at about 5:30 a.m. and go to bed around 10 p.m. The food served is lacto-vegetarian.
Attentive listening, presence and contemplation, during the retreats with Swami Satyananda Saraswati, allow us to have a direct experience of his silence and words. This is where his teachings become alive.
Each year we organize two retreats, one in spring (four days coinciding with Easter) and one in summer during the month of August.
Please note that there is limited availability and prior registration is required.
